Day 4 - Part 2 - Giraffe, Cheetahs & more Elephants

Breakfast at the camp...

The remnants of the previous night's campfire...

Gateway to the Masai Mara Reserve... It's just symbolic, as there's no fence or barrier either side of it...

Masai Mara Gate

Buffalo and calf...

Our first Elephants and number 4 on our 'Big Five' list...

Secretary Bird in the long grass...

A leggier view...

A Masai cattle stockade...

Bustard...

Guinea Fowl...

Hamerkop's nest... up to 5 feet across and able to support a man's weight, built by a wading bird less than 2 feet tall...

A male Waterbuck... apparently they taste awful, so not much eats them...

Warthogs on a good hair day...

Even the king of the jungle gets pestered by flies...

Wildebeest, part of a herd that had crossed the Mara River either the previous evening or in the very early hours of the morning...

The start of the migration was earlier this year, so we were lucky to see one of the first herds on their way to the Serengeti in Tanzania...

The herd zig-zagging across the plain... part of the herd had doubled back to the river, before turning back again and at one point surrounded our vehicles...

Not all of them had crossed the Mara River safely...

The crocodiles were also ready for the migration season...
