It's amazing how the prospect of getting dressed, undoing & doing up about 8 zips and trudging through wet undergrowth can help a bladder get through the night. We awoke to another misty start and a very fine breakfast to fortify us for the climb ahead.

We had been told the night before to ensure that all zips were tightly closed in the tents as there were spiders in the area, that while no harm to humans, had a habit of weeing on your face in the night as they crawl across which causes a swelling reaction - we scanned each other's faces at breakfast to see if anyone had been peed on in the night - fortunately not.

Miche emerging from our tent...

Our campsite - mess tent on the far right. This was civilised campsite camping - tonight would be wild camping...

More moss as we passed through the misty zone...

Grapefruit growing on the trail - they had a very deep pith layer, but tasted delicious...

Fern shoots...

...

Out of the mist and up on the crater rim - we had about 16km to walk today...

First views of the sulphur vents...

That impressive cascading mist again viewed from close to our second camp...

David taking a shot...

The cowboys arrived a little later with the tents...

Fausto had to work hard with his machete to clear a path to the sulphur fumeroles - branches closing in behind Rowena...

Sulphur - if you dropped anything on the ground here, it made a thud that sounded as though it was hollow beneath us...

The smell of sulphur was very strong in the air and would burn your throat and lungs if you didn't take precautions.

Miche using her buff to good effect...
