Whale Watching

The weather wasn't in the best of moods on arrival on the South Island, the Cook Strait ferry that we had taken was cancelled the day after we took it as this big storm rolled in...

However, it made for some bracing winds and impressive waves...

Strong enough to rip off large pieces of kelp...

This one was as thick as my arm...

The gulls had got to this chap...

Our South Island car... a white version of the Holden Commodore we had on the North Island...

When the weather broke it revealed a very different scene...

Around Kaikoura...

With whale watching cancelled for the day due to the sea conditions, we took a drive in land to Hanmer Springs and pass a few of New Zealand's sheep on the way...

A dusting of snow near Mt Lyford Ski Resort...

Back at the coast, the sea looked so tranquil that it was hard to believe that we were in the same place as yesterday...
