After a short
and appropriately busy stop in Hong Kong we headed back to the airport for
the shorter 7.5 hour hop to Perth...
Nearly there...
Welcome to Perth and
our Western Australia trip was about to commence.
I do love these 'Welcome to ' signs, it's shame all airports don't have
them, but I guess that would mean the place would be choked with tourists
like us taking photos...
Our ride for the
trip north - not quite as dirt road credible as a rugged, seasoned Land
Rover, but we learned to love the Renault Koleos and all our driving was on
tarmac - we let the pros do the unsealed roads...
In profile - it
came back in one piece too, except for a cracked windscreen...
Cottesloe
My first return to
Cottesloe since 2005, this is the 2017 version of the Norfolk Island pine
trees and sea view that had stuck in my mind from that earlier visit...
versus
We
dropped our stuff off at the Cottesloe Beach Hotel and headed to the Subiaco
Oval to watch our first AFL
game - West Coast Eagles versus Great Western Sydney Giants...
Smiles ahead
of trying to learn the rules as the game went along...
A traditional
aboriginal performance before kick-off...
Off we go, a huge pitch and seats in the lower tier meant that we weren't
always a 100% sure how close to goal the action was at the other, but we had
a cracking view of the near end...
It ebbed and
flowed but eventually finished 90-98 to the Giants...
Dinner
at the Indiana Tea House in Cottesloe - still early evening, but we were
late arrivals as Cottesloe gets up early and goes to bed early too.
Still
time for a delicious barbequed octopus though, probably the nicest octopus
I'd ever eaten and I've been bothering cephalopods for many years...
