Trek day 1 - 6.8 miles and 1470m of altitude gain before topping out at 3207m for today ahead of summit day tomorrow.

 

After the flattish walk from Imlil (1800m) to Arroumd (1900m), we started on the steeper gradients...

The female Muslim shrine at Sidi Chamharouch (King of Jinns), a site used for animal sacrifices predominantly by ladies who hope to get pregnant...

Crows overhead as a rain shower moved in as we took on the steep climb out of Sidi Chamharouch...

Once again appearances can be deceiving, this trailside stall 'Junction Cafe' had a basket of unappetising looking oranges, which when squeezed were ridiculously sweet and juicy...

Quite a lot was forbidden, but as the refuge is used by those getting up at 3am for a 4am start, as well as those celebrating climbing Mt Toubkal, it made sense to keep the place as quiet and harmonious as possible...

After a long queue for a shower, supper and a pep talk, our warm, comfortable but sardine-style 24-berth dorm awaited...

Having the mattress nearest the precipitous ladder turned out to be a disadvantage as I was climbed over by people for their nocturnal wee breaks in between listening to the assembled frog chorus of snoring and flatulence that nerves and spicy food so copiously laid on...
