Singapore Day 2

Our flight got us into Singapore at 8:00 in the morning and a quick taxi ride into the city had us at the hotel well in advance of any hotel check-in time, but the people in the hotel were fantastic and really helped.

Despite being so early we already got a feel for the heat and humidity. Miche relaxing on the roof terrace...

A quick breather taken, but you can't keep Miche away from those sightseeing bus tours and we wanted to get our bearings.

The open top sightseeing bus tour was a bit chaotic and didn't slow for the sights everyone wanted to see, instead it only stopped at bus stops away from everything apart from malls and building sites. Therefore most of my photo's were hasty and blurred. When we rejoined it in the afternoon, it was during a Singapore downpour, which gave it an even more sit-com air.

After our whistlestop bus tour we took a more leisurely river cruise on a Bumboat (that's what they're called, honestly).

Singapore has a complete mix of the traditional and the ultra-modern...

 

After the tours we head back to the hotel and freshen up in the room...

Suitably freshened up, we head out for an evening in the Long Bar at Raffles...

Singapore Slings...

Despite being £15 each and technically being a bit of a girl's drink, you can't go there and not have one (or two). They were really nice - mainly gin and cherry brandy based (full recipe: 1 oz gin, 1/2 oz cherry brandy, 4 oz pineapple juice, 1/2 oz lime juice, 1/4 oz Cointreau orange liqueur, 1/4 oz Benedictine herbal liqueur, 1/3 oz grenadine syrup, 1 dash Angostura bitters)...

Strange place, lots of colonial touches with wooden palm shaped fans and an air of luxury, but also a place where every table has unlimited free monkey nuts and where the expectation is that you eat them and throw the shells on the floor...
