Back onto the Pan-American Highway for our move into the Talamanca Mountains.
We travelled over the Cerro de Meurte 'Mountain of Death' at 3300m.
Below is a hummingbird at a cafe stop at 3100m...
It was a bit chillier than we had been at sea level, possibly why this one is so puffed up...
We stayed at the Savegre Mountain Hotel at 2200m for 2 nights - on the second night, we were the only guests there as it was low season.
It too had a pair of Hummingbird feeding stations.
An aptly named White-Throated Mountain Gem sticks out his tongue and rolls his eyes...

We went on a Quetzal hunt on the afternoon that we arrived - these shy, rare birds are the main reason for the valley's popularity.
We saw at least a pair, but they kept high and only seemed to give coy, over the shoulder looks.
