Great Smoky Mountains National Park

We'd seen a bear earlier at a distance in the long grass, but this one was happily searching for food in the woods...

Clingman Dome

On the border of Tennessee and North Carolina and at 6643 feet it's the highest point in Smoky Mountains.

It's a bit of a cheat as you can drive to within half a mile of summit and just walk the rest - unfortunately the clouds were about 200m too low to get any views from the very top...

On the Appalation Trail - not a trail to be taken lightly, it's 2174 miles long...

About 200m below the summit you escaped the clouds...

Lower down still...

Jellyfish at The Aquarium of the Smokies. It was the most impressive aquarium that I've ever been to, with a huge shark pool as well as large, well-presented tanks of Weedy Seadragons, Spider Crabs, Octopus, etc..

I've always wanted to see a Horseshoe Crab and was able to go one better here...

With a name like this, we had to give it a try...

Health food it wasn't - just the starters were enough to make a cardiologist weep - Miche tucked into fried green tomatoes, while I had the fried pickles...
