After another ride in the back of a pick-up truck to the airport, we board a plane bound for Kota Kinabalu (via Miri)...
View from the plane showing how the land has been affected: lush
jungle at the top, cleared in the middle and bare slopes at the
bottom...
The shops at Miri airport had some real treats, alas luggage restrictions denied some truly beautiful Christmas present surprises back home...
The attempts to cool the plane in such humid conditions made for a dry-ice like environment in the cabin...
Sculptures near the sea front in Kota Kinabalu... it was a Friday night and as dusk fell the area filled with teenagers meeting for the evening...
Some scruffy looking fishing boats in the harbour... note the litter in water, I didn't see a single bit of graffiti the whole time I was in Malaysia, but there was litter everywhere where there were people...
Squid and a can of chrysanthemum tea bought and eaten at a street market. The squid was absolutely delicious, the best I've ever had; the chrysanthemum tea was a little wishy-washy, but I'd made it my goal to drink as many of the weird canned drinks on offer. My favourite being strawberry, my two least favourites being grass jelly and coconut, both of which had disconcerting lumpy bits in them to surprise the unwary guzzler...
Sunset over the South China Sea...
The islands in the distance form part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park which we visited at the end of the trip...
