We boarded a minibus with Odinn our driver and headed out into the interior for the classic Icelandic tour - the Golden Circle.

Miche at the volcanic crater of Kerid - the coffee is as much for its hand warming properties as it was for the contents...

Miche at the Crater's highest point at 10:24 in the morning...

Björk once held a concert here on a floating raft in the crater's lake.
...

A stop at Faxafoss to whet our appetite for waterfalls.

Salmon ladder on the left hand side...

Gullfoss

An immensely impressive double falls...

Upper & lower falls...

Miche and the lower falls...

Large blocks of river ice stacking up...

Lower falls...

Miche tackling a traditional Icelandic hearty, lamb soup in the welcome warmth of the visitor centre...

Geysir

Miche standing next to the currently dormant Geysir geyser in the Haukadalur valley, as the first seen by westerners it's given all other geysers its name...

However nearby Strokkur erupted very regularly at between 3 & 7 minute intervals and gets as high as 40 metres...

Icy warnings of the boiling temperatures looked slightly incongruous...

Miche by the Strokkur Geyser in between eruptions - we'd been warned to stay upwind to avoid a soaking...

In between eruptions the water in the geyser would rise and fall and we had been told that Strokkur would give no real warning other than a split second glimpse of the steam bulging through the water just before an eruption.

Strokkur's steamy bulge immediately before an eruption...

Within a second the eruption starts...

Some eruptions would give 2 or 3 spouts in very quick succession.

After the eruption the water would trickle back into the boiling hole...

Trying on a ready-mustachioed balaclava for that Viking look. A snip at just £75...

Þingvellir (Thingvellir)

Miche next to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland...

All the water is filtered through volcanic rock, so it's incredibly clear...

Miche & I on the shore of Þingvallavatn...

Miche at the site of the world's first parliament, the Alþingi at Þingvellir...

The temperatures playing havoc on Miche's glasses...

Miche at the Alþingi...
