A day snorkelling in between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in a rift valley with crystal clear water.

Clambering into a dry suit in wind driven snow behind a 4x4 was a chilly baptism...

Once inside the suit and with gloves full of hot water we were good to go...

Laurent, our guide's hood gave him a Max Wall bald look.

Miche on the steps at the entrance to the fissure...

Miche getting used to the incredible buoyancy...

Miche heads off in the gentle current from the waters emerging from a 70m chamber at the start of the fissure...

Miche in the clear water...

The cool temperatures and lack of vegetation meant for an absence of fish - there are large trout and charr in the lake...

There were the occasional algae growths...

We could always see the bottom clearly, which at one point was 154 feet (47m) beneath us...

Miche ready to exit gracefully...

Me in the shallows going for that Walrus look...

Miche just about peeking out of her suit...

On the walk back to the car, the guide asked if I would like to jump off a cliff... maybe I had offended him?

Laurent in first...

My leap...

... and landing...

Miche warming up in the car...
