With just one night on the island before we had to head back to Lima, we were up early for a day largely of travel.

The stove that our dinner had been cooked on the evening before...

Granadilla flower...

The bed and en suite - in an attempt to preserve the mystery and dignity of our relationship, we opted for the walk to the outside toilet...

Amantani 3

The thick blankets ensured we had a warm and very comfortable night's sleep despite being at over 3800metres altitude...

The granadilla obsession continued...

Following a boat ride to the mainland during which we saw a flock of Flamingoes flying high above us, we boarded a bus and headed for the airport.

Farmers on the dry flat plain...

Amantani 16

Pedestrians on the road - as we got closer to the city of Juliaca which hosted the airport, the rural scenes were replaced with fly-tipped rubbish. Juliaca was by far the least attractive place we'd seen on the trip and with a reputation as source of counterfeit goods and general lawlessness, we were glad just to be using its airport (which was immaculately clean and modern, like all the airports we'd seen in Peru)....

Amantani 17

Lake Titicaca and snowcapped mountains in the distance...

Lima 1

This motorcyclist had made sure he was protected if he came off in Lima's crazy traffic, he seemed less bothered about the pretty girl on the back...

Lima 2

A tribute to Vultan and his brave hawkmen from Flash Gordon... or it could possibly be a statue of the Archangel Michael...

Palms on Lima's beachfront...

It was slightly disturbing to find that our room for the last night was in between two of the hotel's general access toilets - it explains why we took ages to find it - the brain fills in the gaps and would have assumed our room was the gents toilet - luckily it wasn't...
