much earlier than expected start saw us heading off to Otavalo - a town
famous for its market. I have to admit we didn't much fancy part of a
day in a market, but
both the food market (pictures below) and the regular market (no photos)
were actually pretty interesting - needless to say we bought a
Panama hat, bracelets and a painting amongst other things, despite
having gone there not really after anything.

A handy stop-off for local leaf-wrapped cheese for dipping in hot drinks and for Biscochos - not to mention a bit of touristy posing

The guy
with the huge knife was selling live crabs - presumably the knife was
to dispatch them rather than to protect his stock from marauding crab
thieves...

This is
the leader with a whip to encourage people to dance and join in - we
were driving past in a minibus when I took these photos, so out of the
way of physical encouragement...
This chap is encouraging consumption of the local cane alcohol - Canelazo...
