Return to Summer

The
three hour speedboat trip from San Cristóbal in the morning
turned into quite an ordeal for some, myself included, the boat was
smaller and 'bouncier' than I'd hoped and after a seasickness tablet
and trying to ride it out for an hour I just laid down and waited for it all to be over for the next two hours!
A very welcome sight as we pull up to the dock at Post Office Bay ...
A sea lion basks as Carolyn disembarks...
Welcome to Floreana...
A large Iguana very near the dock to give a foretaste of what was to come with smaller black juveniles dotted around...
Just a couple of hundred yards from our rooms, there was a fantastic colony of large Marine Iguanas...
They were completely relaxed with us passing close by...
The
sally lightfoot crabs were slightly more skittish, a group of large
adults about to throw themselves into the water or climb virtually
sheer rocks...
Feeding at the water-line...
This one was particularly photogenic - I liked the camouflage markings on his throat and neck...
Other larger ones were quite heavily red-pigmented...
A bit of tongue rolling...
The search for the perfect iguana shot was unending and impossible...
Wonderful salt-encrusted head-scales...
Posing with the locals...
The
colony was a generally peaceful place, but occasionally one of the
large males would throw his weight around a little and chase off any
potential rivals...
