Very social for such large reptiles...
Giant Galapagos Chiton shells (about 3-4 inches long) on an area of beach made largely of Pencil-Spined Sea Urchin's spines...

A short walk along the shore took us to an ideal bay for snorkelling...

an experimental one - trying to get a simultaneous above and below
water shot - in my defense the moving water was pretty murky so close to shore...

Again oblivious to humans, they'd happily swim towards you...

inland to the highlands where pirates used to hide out in the lava
tubes and were able to see far out to sea for approaching
ships...
Miche on the walk back to the hotel...
A pair
of male sea lions skirmishing - the closest one had inched his way on
land until the beachmaster spied him and gave chase into the water. We
saw them porpoising around the bay as the chase continued...
Lava formation on the shore...
The
island and now the hotel have been run by a German family for many
years - the Teutonic ambiance could be felt in the rooms with a series
of signs outlining the rules. That said it was one of our favourite hotels and they can bang out a mean soup...
