Part 2 - Tortuga Bay - Boobies & Baby Sharks
A bus across Puerto Ayora; pretending not to be part of a group and a 2.5 km walk took us to a white sandy beach.
A marine iguana basking near a patch of mangroves on the beach...
A walk along the beach took us to a second beach - Playa Mansa.
A mature opuntia with its glossy reddy brown bark - their trunks almost look plastic...

A pair of Blue Footed Boobies were happy to pose for anyone waiting for baby sharks to appear near the rocks below...

There was a drop to the bay where we hoped juvenile sharks would swim past...
Alas, the sharks were a 'no-show' on this side of the bay, but the Boobies kept us entertained...
After all that sitting - a scratch and a stretch...
Our
dogged perseverance with the rocky side of the bay meant that we didn't
look at the mangrove side. With only a few minutes left before we had
to go - word reached us that the sharks were in the tree roots.
Miche had her bikini on and ready, I didn't have time to change so waded in chest deep fully clothed - I'd worry about drying out later.
Standing in the water looking down at baby sharks at our feet - despite being youngsters they were still about 4 foot long and less predictable than the adults...

Even
though it only lasted a few minutes, this was one of Miche's (and my)
top highlights of the trip - one shark swam out between us, circled and
returned to the group at our feet. We also saw young Rays.
